Green Silicon Carbide is electrically fused in a resistance furnace from petroleum coke and high quality silica as main raw material, adding NaCl as additive. The crystal after smelting has properties of high purity and excellent hardness. The hardness of GC is between fused alumina and diamond, mechanical strength of it is better than fused alumina. With more than 99% SiC content,good self-sharpening,GC is mostly used to machine cemented carbide, titanium alloy and optical glass, which is also used to hone cylinder liner and grind high speed steel tool.
